5 Reasons to Run in the Morning

I was never a morning person.

As I used to jetset all the time, my hours were pretty irregular.  I ran mostly in the evenings or at night or in gyms at the hotels where I stayed at funny hours due to jet lag.  I still enjoy running at night but I am beginning to find the joy of running in the mornings. There are many reasons to exercise in the morning but I came up with just 5 reasons to run in the morning.

why you should exercise in the morning

Now that I have settled down in a pretty routine office job, my internal clock has been reprogrammed to wake up early. I am so used to waking up early that even on weekends, I hardly sleep in.

I remember how someone once said to me that he didn’t like sleeping in as this would mean half the day was wasted and he would feel unproductive and I would think to myself:” but i like sleeping in..” As I had just gotten back from a long flight and was so tired. I would take every opportunity to make up for lost sleep.

Now, I see his point. It is more productive and here are my 5 reasons to run in the morning (in my opinion of course):

1.  You get the exercise out of the way. Done. If things crop up, at least you have run your miles or often you will be too tired at the end of the day and will be tempted to just stay indoors and veg on the couch.

2. The air is fresh and crisp and the serenity that morning brings is just overwhelming. When dawn is breaking, half the world is still sleeping. It’s that space between darkness becoming light.

That’s when I can slowly ponder on things and my conversations with God takes place.

3. I start the day on a right note knowing that I already have done something beneficial for my body.

4. I can reward myself with a hearty and healthy breakfast.

5. It helps you lose weight by kick starting your metabolism and exercise releases endorphins that elevate your mood throughout the day. Hello sunshine. Chances of you spoiling your diet is lower as you do not want to sabotage the effort you have already put in earlier on in the day.

It takes a lot of discipline to wake up though, I find myself hitting the snooze button more often than I put on my running shoes. But once you, even in your groggy state, manage to psyche yourself out of the door, it really is an awesome feeling.
