What's your sleep personality?
Do you wake up tired even though you sleep more than 10 hours a day?
Sleep is a very important factor in deciding our body's wellness.
Too much of it or too little of it upsets our body’s balance. According to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute (which part of the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services), sleep is important for healthy brain function, emotional well being and physical health. Read more here.
Do you know that skimping on sleep makes you fat?
Sleep helps maintain a healthy balance of the hormones that make you feel hungry (ghrelin) or full (leptin). When you don’t get enough sleep, your level of ghrelin goes up and your level of leptin goes down. This makes you feel hungrier than when you’re well-rested.
Sleep also affects how your body reacts to insulin, the hormone that controls your blood glucose (sugar) level. Sleep deficiency results in a higher than normal blood sugar level, which may increase your risk for diabetes.
