How I ran this year’s Standard Chartered Marathon 2012 Singapore

Just completed the Standard Chartered Marathon 2012 Singapore yesterday. Really have to thank God for no cramps and great weather.

I almost didn’t run the race as I did not train for this at all. Since May, I had  a very bad leg injury that hampered my running throughout the months leading up to the run.

Then just when I thought it was better, I actually kind of injured my knee while running on incline on the treadmill.

So I thought, why not gate crash the 21 but… then again didn’t feel that it was a nice thing to do, besides, I didn’t want to get thrown out. So I decided that I would still run the 42km but walk it instead with the aim of completion.

Time taken : 6 hours 44 minute and 28 seconds – far from my personal best but considering the blown knee… Am one happy gal!

This year though, I really could feel the hunger, probably cos I had not been doing long runs and my body has forgotten how to burn less fuel at a given pace so that it can last longer.. (if you don’t understand how it works, read more here)

Before the Standard Chartered Marathon: one banana and a gel

During the run: one banana and four gels

Immediately after the run : muesli bar that they gave followed by Subway – sandwich never tasted so good!

Some might think why torture yourself running on an injured leg? The truth be told- I don’t know either, I really don’t fancy running when I am not ready but somehow I told myself if so many people were determined to do it, I could too and that it would only take up part of my day.

So how do you run on an injured leg?

Lot’s of patience and perseverance 🙂

Anyway, here are some photos to share:
