Do This Super Exercise to Tone Your Core in Minutes – Reap the benefits of plank exercise

If there is one exercise that I would have to choose to tone up quickly, it would be THE PLANK exercise

plank position, plank exercise

 Benefits of Plank Exercise:

  • It strengthens your lower back
  • It developes your core muscles – which include the abs, back, hips and the butt.
  • Helps you to avoid injuries and encourage good posture
  • Can be done anywhere
  • Develops your abdominals by targeting the rectus abdominis

While planking is more known for a core training exercise, many yoga and pilates classes use it in their routines as well.

When I first started I could barely hold on for a full minutes. Happy to say I have progressed to about 4 minutes although I have totally slacked a bit last month due to so many sports events.

How to Start:

Here is a youtube video that teaches you the right way to plank, you can start doing it while watching to get the benefits of plank exercise

A simple planking exercise routine to follow:

You can do it as part of a strength training routine which can include squats, push-ups, burpees and such. I like to build strength using my body weight as it’s so convenient in the mornings when I wake and when I don’t have time to go to the gym.

Simple Plank Routine to Get Started:

30 sec plank

rest 10 sec

45 sec plank

rest 15 sec

Do this 5 times. 3 times if you are totally new to plank. TRY your best. Slowly build from there.

I love the plank. When I first started, I could only do 10 seconds. Now, I’m up to 40 seconds at at time. Wooo hooo! 🙂
