Straits Times Run in the Park 2013

Turns out that there were two runs that took place in the morning, Straits Times Run in the Park  and the CSC Run by the Bay. I chose to run the former because I wanted a change of scenery. The route for CSC was at the Marina Barrage where I had been running for the past races.

Besides, this was Straits Times first inaugural run and I did want to see how the Punggol water way looked like.

The run

Bag deposit was situated at the open field next to the Punggol Mrt and the start point was a 5-10 minute walk. The run had already  started when we arrived but by a mere 3 minutes so there was no cause for concern. I could still see a lot of people lounging around, probably waiting for friends.

The first 3k was rather a pain as it got pretty congested ( think of the space you usually see in parks) and imagine hordes of people trying to run it at the same time. After a while, it got better as the crowd spread out, whether to stop and take photos or simply because it was so hot and they were tired.

As for me, I was pretty tired as I had only less than 3 hours of sleep (hey, Saturday night right, lol), but I managed a somewhat enjoyable run in my cloud runners which is my favorite pair of shoes at the moment. Rock taped my arch and calf for injury prevention, and I really do think it helped tremendously. No usual significant pain from my ongoing injury whatsoever, just a dull ache. Either that or I really must be recovering, finally.

The good

Kudos to Straits times for organising a run that is different to the usual events. The route was planned rather well and showcased Punggol waterway as a great alternative outdoor place to run in nature.

The Bad

OMG, the queue for the goody bag was ridonkulous! I spent more time queuing for it than running my 10km. Not to mention, they ran out of water at the end point as well which was a pity for thirsty hippos that finished their race later. I don’t know about you, but when I finish a run, I WANT water!

Then came the baggage collection which again was a queue. Sigh, all in all in, I ended my run at about 8.30 am but only managed to get my bag and stuff and grab a bite at close to 11am. Why couldn’t they have given the goody bag together with the race pack collection huh? Like all the other collections…

So anyway, in case you were wondering what’s so good about the goody bag? Nothing really, it’s just that it’s been paid for already. But a bit better than what is normally given. But this is the best in my opinion this year.
