An Hour a Day Commitment for a Healthier Lifestyle

Urgh! Half the year has officially past and I have approximately 3 weeks (+/- 25 days) before I leave for Perth so I decided to do something productive with my remaining time here and for the rest of 2014.

I have decided to pledge an hour a day doing something active and got Sam to do the same. I am so happy that we love the same things, being active but not obsessive over it, going for treks but at the same time indulging in our fav foods whenever we feel like it, etc.

Life is too short to always be on a restrictive diet or to spend hours in the gym. We have friends to meet, social lives that include other activities, yummy food to try.  We are just making a commitment to choosing a healthier choice whenever we can and when we slip up, not to beat ourselves over it but realise it is a lifestyle journey we aim towards.

So here’s what some of the things I can do. Going all out everyday for one hour can take a toil especially if you need more recovery than others. My one hour can consist of these things, as long as they are active and not sitting on your butt.

1. Doing house work for an hour (sometimes these can take longer than an hour and I get sucked into cleaning mode)

2. Going for long walks or treks – hoping to do more treks before I leave like the newly opened Jurong Eco-gardens

3. Leisure swims

4. Running

5. Strength training

6. Window Shopping

I think you get my drift, as long as you make the effort to get off the couch, a little goes a long way. Have been having fun with my pedometer trying to clock 10,000 steps a day but it’s hard!

So here’s my Day 1/25

I was tired after running the Sundown run on sunday so I took it slow and went for a walk but it started raining! Urgh

But nevertheless since I was half way, I just walked under the blocks and went to the supermarket to scour for healthy alternatives to consider buying at the supermarket (post coming up) I started my walk around 4.30 and came back about 5.30 just in time to foam roll and do some stretches.

Check out Adams Peanut Butter – just one of the healthier choices I found in the supermarket. Only 1g of sugar serving compared to 3g in normal sugar added peanut butter brand.  0 sodium vs 140gm sodium per serving. 

Also there is only one ingredient listed – peanuts

Other brand as listed – roasted peanuts, sugar, less than 2% of hydrogenated vegetable oils (cottonseed and rapeseed) , salt, partially hydrogenated cottonseed oil

So this 1 hour activity was really productive to me. Stay tuned for the next blog post!
